Matt C, Jason, Eric and Matthew K rockin' the special Groshes
Tuesday morning Brent and Yoshi from Don Grosh Guitars stopped by Mass St. Music and brought some very cool one-off guitars and prototypes for show and tell (and some bagels). What a morning…more than anything else it just confirmed why we love these guitars – not only do they have incredible playability and tone but they are some of the coolest looking guitars around. In the photo below, John checks out the 293 – fully hollow. We’ve got a 193 in the store right now, and it’s phenomenal – come check it out while it’s still here.

Thanks to our twitter buddy Selmerguy for the tip on this killer banjo site - www.banjoworld.de . An unbelievably huge collection of banjos and related instruments in Germany - I think it’s a museum of sorts - gorgeous carved pegheads, hundreds of decorated resonators, incredible vintage pieces…I think this guy has actually seen it all. And thankfully he’s photographed it all too. Check it out.

We rounded up a couple of great contenders from several of the lines we carry for our first ‘Acoustic Guitars Under $1000 Shootout’ - the Martin D-1 ($899), the Taylor 210 ($699) and the Eastman AC420B ($949). Our great sales guys Matthew, Eric and Jason as well as co-owner/GM John Flynn and shop manager Mike went a round with each guitar. The winner? Depends on who you ask. Let the games begin.

The challengers: Martin D-1, Taylor 210 & Eastman 420B

Mass Street is really excited to be a part of bringing gospel/soul wunderkind
Mike Farris to Lawrence on June 19! Farris has been creating a real stir with his remarkable soulful sound and killer band, The Roseland Rhythm Revue (horns, gospel singers, need I say more?). His new album “Shout! Live” was recorded at the Station Inn in Nashville over just a few days and it’s a heck of an addictive disc. I think this is going to be one of the best shows to hit Lawrence in a while. What does he sound like? Like the real deal. Soul + Gospel + New Orleans = rocking good time. Check it out for yourself in this youtube clip ofÂ
‘O Mary Don’t You Weep’ - (music starts around :42 if you want to skip the intro). Tix at
Liberty Hall and
Ticketmaster. This show will be on the tails of his Bonnaroo appearance and just before he hits the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Hollywood Bowl, so catch him while you can. Here’s the facts Jack:

We just got this Collings UC2 Uke in. I tried to shoot this for the store site, but Jason won’t put it down, so here are the shots I could get.

Someone please pry this out of his hands so I can photograph it
Jason says, “Super resonant and smelling of cinnamon, this ukulele arrived today and promptly knocked me off my feet. The Collings UC2 tunes like a dream, is flawlessly intonated, and is quite the looker to boot! This feisty little Uke is currently clawing its way to the top of my “superfluous purchases” list.”

Jason reliquishes the UC2 to John and gives him a quick uke lesson
Will be on the site on Monday.

Love me some Green Onions. This show is a repeat, but I never heard it the first time around. Here’s a link to the story, with pics on npr.org. He sez ‘Green Onions’ was something of an accident in the studio and talks about how he had a paper route in high school when he started playing at Stax. Funny thing, the instrumentalist has such a velvet smooth voice. Also some news about a new album from him.
